|
|
Hi All - I'm wondering what sounds that are triggered from Jamstix I should put on my final audio recordings. Though I work in a home studio, I plan on bringing my Cubase SX3 projects to a local professional studio for production and recording, and I'd like to make these demos as polished as I reasonably can before I bring them.
Here are the options I've heard about that I'm considering:
1) Jamstix internal drum sounds themselves
2) BFD
3) DFH
4) My Motif 8 internal drum sounds
5) The LM4 Mark II package I've got (Steinberg)
6) The Steinberg "VST Drum Sessions" I've got (In "Pop Vol. 1", "Rhythm & Blues", and "Straight Rock" packages).
It seems that lots of folks like BFD or DFH. Are they by far and away the better/best of these options?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice _________________ Alexis

All these options have their good points, but you have to go a long way to beat the Jamstix sounds, plus the add on paks.
IMHO they match the quality of the best drum software for a fraction of the price. For example, I've got BFD and RMIV, but since using Jamstix I don't tend to use them very much at all.
Just my 2$.

I agree with Alan, I even uninstalled BFD, I rarely use DFH and only for the real heavy stuff like metal.
Most of the time however I end up using JS internal sounds. I think they sound very natural, and with the right fx you can make them sound whatever you like. It's all in the way you record things...just like with real drums.
Amazing piece of work considering the huge difference in file size between JS Sounds and for example BFD Sounds.
Just be sure you get the expansions and you will have allmost everything you will ever need... |

Thanks, guys, those are some really helpful observations.
I actually was surprised to hear that BFD/DFH don't measure up, in large part because on the video tutorials the narrator always says something like "we've loaded up BFD drums for this sound...".
I figured if the JS narrator was loading these programs up, then I should too. Glad to know that not everyone agrees!
I wonder why the JS narrator says did that? It's not like they're using it as an opportunity to teach how to load up other softwear...

The tutorials were made before the Jamstix release when we thought the internal engine would be of much less importance. So we made it a point to show in the tutorials how easy it is to use other modules (like BFD) inside of Jamstix.
Since the JS release, the internal engine turned out to be used a lot more than we anticipated so we released the expansion Paks to bring up the sound quality and variety to match the interest. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| I bought BFD shortly before Jamstix and was seriously considering getting BFD XL, 8-Bit Kit, Deluxe etc. until Ralph started releasing the add-on paks. I can honestly say I have now have everything I need in Jamstix for a fraction of the price and a lot less disk space !! |

Cool, thanks guys. For now at least, I'll save sheckels, disk space, and brain cells by not buying BFD, DFH, etc. _________________ Alexis
