We are thinking about adding a 'Rhythm Set' function to a future free Jamstix 1 update (but not the imminent 1.6).
This is how it would work: you'd pick a groove and hit 'Make Set'. Jamstix will take the rhythm and create 3 new versions of it and put those into any free slots in the arranger. The variations would be as follows:
1) HiHat <-> Ride (i.e.Chorus)
2) Halftime (i.e. Bridge)
3) Snare on kick (i.e. Quiet Section)
These are standard variations that are found in many songs. So instead of having to store 4 rhythms in the library, you'd have only one and could create the other 3 when needed.
This feature is aimed at those who are used to rhythm sets for building songs from loop libaries.
What do you think? _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Top idea Ralph!
The ride to hi hat or vice versa is a variation on a rhythm I do all the time so having it automated would be awesome.
I would definitely use this function in just about every somg I arrange in Jamstix.
Even if I didn't need a half time rhythm, it is no big deal to just remove it once it is in the arranger.
Certainly a lot easier than creating it yourself.

I voted "maybe" because I could have used just such a feature recently; I ended up using three copies of the same library pattern "laid back groove" in my arrangement, each a subtle variation on the other.
I wouldn't necessarily want JS to make the variations for me, since its unlikely precanned variations would match what I wanted (unless I was able to select from a menu of possible variations)
However, creating the copies of the rhythm, and naming them "VERSE A", "VERSE B" etc automatically would be a neato feature! |

Sounds like a good idea to me - but why not a few more variations. I understand that these are "standard"variations", but I'm sure others could be created that could be helpful. Because these are to be created by jamstix and not programmed in, I realize they have to be rules based, and will obviously not be totally new, alternate patterns. And obviously jamstix allowes us to make these variations ourselves, but hearing variations done for us may give us non-drummers ideas we would not have come up with on our own (so more variation options would be even better). Maybe variations could offer the following, for example:
- more aggressive
- even more aggressive
- variation on snare
- variation on kick
- ?????
I am sure there are others who would have more insight / better ideas / more ideas then me.
I don't know - Ralph, maybe I'm distorting your Idea - I thought I'd throw it out there incase it's helpful.

Geoff, we are thinking down those lines but this is for a free update so we need to limit the scope.
For Jamstix 2 we have an even more organic approach... _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Sounds a good way to speed up creating an arrangement, so I'm all for it.
What exactly is "Snare on kick "

Many songs have quieter bridges or transitional sections where the drummer will stop playing the snare and play most of the skipped snare notes on the kick instead. That's what this does. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Sounds like an extremely useful feature, great idea !
This is maybe not so essential for those of us working on complex or experimental drum tracks, but for all the simpler styles it could be a big time saver.
Definitely yes, thanks for always improving this fantastic and unique product.
