Can I use the Reason Drum ReFill sounds in Jamstix? If so how?
Thanks,
Lee

I would think no. That would make Jamstix more of a "user sample" based instrument like Battery. It looks like all it's drum samples are stored in a proprietory format.
Adding user samples would be a great addition though for vers. 2.

The only way I can think of is to use MIDI. The refill format is encrypted to stop people using Reason content outside of Reason. I use Reason a lot but haven't bought the RDK because it would be strictly limited to use in Reason. Although I do often rewire Reason up to Cubase or ProTools I wouldn't like to have to do this for drums as I often change them right up to the final mix and I find it can be a bit fiddly.
FYI two workarounds (using MIDI) are:
1. Save the output of Jamstix to a MIDI file (using capture in a host is the best as export directly from Jamstix does not currently export the engine additions, it only exports the base patterns - corrent me if I'm wrong, someone) - then import the MIDI file into Reason. Reassign any drum sounds that do not correspond to the Jamstix notes (or do the mapping in Jamstix to match the RDK mappings - your choice) and play your NN-XT from the track containing the MIDI notes. This reduces flexibility as the MIDI files can not be changed by the Jamsitx engine anymore but can still be edited fine in Reason.
2. Run Reason via rewire and insert Jamstix into your host, which will need to be the rewire master. Direct the MIDI output of Jamstix to the MIDI input for the RDK NN-XT via rewire.
I use this method all the time to trigger one of my favourite bass sounds that I have in a refill in order to use it with recorded audio and my other VSTis.
Both of these require the use of a host programme, the second way needs one that can run as a rewire master. I would prefer the second way as it has more flexibility but it would require more CPU cycles and is more complicated - you always need to run two programmes if you intend to continue editing your drum patterns, or letting Jamstix do that.
I hope this helps a bit, basically there will never be a direct way for Jamstix to trigger the RDKs unless Propellerheads opens up the refill format.
cheers,
