Hello-
I am now the proud owner of Jamstix plus all the drumpaks. I am having a good time playing with my new software, but I had a couple of questions.
The guitarist in my band sent me a wav of a guitar track that he did for a song. I specifically asked him just to send me that track so I can see what Jamstix does with it.
I set Jamstix to Free Jam. I loaded the guitar track in Cubase SX3. I started playback and let Jamstix do its thing. When the guitar track was done, I stopped playback and set Jamstix to manual.
Then I saw lots of rhythms in the arrangement window, some with fills.
Now....the beginning of the song does not quite sync up and Jamstix starts with a very quick uptempo country beat and then quickly realizes that is not the style of the song and then locks into a groove. However, the bars are not lined up, so fills and come crashes will come at the wrong place, for example on the 3rd bar as opposed to the 4th.
Since Jamstix is making separate rhythms that then get associated in the arrangement window with the specific bars, can I edit each rhythm that was made, for example, to get rid of that country start and replace it with something that might be in bar 3?
And as long as I remain in manual mode, then that arrangement stays as I write it?
And I guess I can then move things to line it up with the guitar track, or maybe write the Jamstix part to a wav file and then import that into Cubase and move it so the proper places line up.
To save the Jamstix part to a wav file, would all I need to do is set up a midi track, insert Jamstix as a VST instrument, set my locators, mute the non drum tracks, and export to an audio file?
I feel like I am submitting my first exam
Any advice would be appreciated, as well as any ideas that might help the set up the audio tracks (ie, add a click track as well so jamstix can follow the beginning of the song?).
Thank you-
Michael |

Exactly, the jam is just a starting point. Switch to manual and fine-tune the arrangement and rhythms. You can also insert or delete measures to make everything shift forward or backward.

Yes.

You could do that but it's easier to just insert or delete measures in the JS arranger.

Yes, you can bounce or freeze.

My experence with Jamstix and Cubase.
First set the tempo in Cubase to match to live track.
I record my first track using the Jamstix metrone.
Then let Jamstix do a Free jam.
Your doing it a bit backwards, since your guitar timing might be off.
I typically end up scrubbing the orginal track, once you get the groove I want.
I hope this makes some bit of sense to you.
