Ralph, thanks for taking the time to implement those right click 'move and rename' options in the arrange window. EXCELLANT!!!!!!!!!!!
I've just installed X-9 and had a test-drive.
I gotta be honest Ralph... for me... this is the most significant beta upgrade since I purchased Jamstix 5 months ago.
Even though I have 'raved' on these posts about how amazing Jamstix is... I suppose I was comparing to what else is out there (nothing!) and I've always been impressed with the sounds samples and the 'potential' for being able to create great drum arrangements....
I say 'potential' becasue until today and X-9... I haven't created a single drum arrangenemt for a complete song... not fully from start to finish.. something always frustrated me and caused me to stop... (remember I am not a drummer and rely on your patterns or other midi files to create drum tracks)
Today I did it in 20 minutes!
I can now import Groove monkey or GM midi files and quickly 'demo' them... remove the un-wanted ones...rename the wanted ones.. and put them anywhere in the list that I want... see, before this used to stump me... ... if I wanted to import a midi groove set from say...groove monkey... and the name of that particular groove is:
'Comtemporary groove with ride A'
and in the same 'set' there is;
'Comtemporary groove with ride B'
'Comtemporary groove with ride C'
'Comtemporary groove with ride Fill 1'
'Comtemporary groove with ride Fill 2'
All I'd get when I imported them before on the list in the arrage window was:
Comtemp
Comtemp
Comtemp
Comtemp
Comtemp
Now I can 'weed' through them, chuck out the ones I don't want and rename the ones I want to keep with names that mean something to me eg:
Verse 1
Vesre 2
Vsr 1 fill
Chorus
With using the X-9 I've also found that previously I was being 'stumped' at an early point in my working on a song...and that has stopped me from using some of Jamstix's other cool features that are things you'd move onto only after getting a basic arrangement sorted out... so not only do we now have these new X-9 features... but these new features in themselves allow me access to functions and features that Jamstix has possessed for some time!
So I am thrilled!
I know some people might work differently to me and may think that it's weird that this aspect has blocked my ability to use Jamstix to it's greater potential... but I'm sure EVERYONE will benefit from this new added function!
The two things I'll be hanging out for now are:
Have a 'save to any folder on the computer' for patterns (this could be on that right click function that you have just implemented in the arrange window... or from the Ryyhym tab)
And the issue of being able to put snare accents on a 'lug' in the arrange window... (like we can now with a fill).
But I can afford to be patient... because I know with Jamstix... good things come to those who wait!
