I've just recently got back into using the jam capabilities of Jamstix, the last couple of projects I've worked on I hava manually built the beats etc and recorded the output. I'm using Cubase SL3 and have a couple of problems. Firstly I just can't get get balanced levels when using the Audio M8 to jam. I'm finding that the velocity display is responding a little too slow to my playing(with a guitar). I've messed around with the power sensitivity, min/max velocity and also the trim knob at the bottom right but to no avail. Also I can't get a balanced level between my guitar and the output of Jamstix - I have to either turn my guitar way down or Jamstix way up. The former means the velocity response is much less, the latter means the output clips. I have direct monitoring off. I've tried creating another Buss with the same outputs in Cubase, then turning it way down but still my guitar completely overpowers the drums. I'm not sure if this is connected but the barprint is showing nothing when I jam with an audio instrument, however it is working fine when I MIDI jam.

I'm sure I'm missing something really simple, I reckon it's something to dowith the way I have Cubase set up. A few months ago I could audio jam with no problems, I'm not sure what has happened to change that. BTW I have the latest version, 1.5.

Downloaded the drum/snare packs a couple of weeks back - absoloutely LOVE them! Smile I just wish I could jam via my guitar with them and hear everything nice and clear. I know it's some kind of mistake on my part though - hopefully somebody will be able to point me in the right direction. Many thanks in advance. Smile

Hmmm...
How is your monitoring set up in Cubase?
The volume of your guitar track and the volume of Jamstix should be totally independent and therefore freely adjustable to your linking.

This is what I would do:

1. Set up a Midi track with Jamstix specified as output (input should be set to "All").

2. Set up an Audio track for your guitar with Audio m8 as insert.

Monitoring both tracks you should now be able to have your guitar and Jamstix as loud/quiet as you want, while you should see the meter in Jamstix move according to your guitar playing velocity.

Use the smoothing slider (vertical slider to the right of input trim knob) to adjust the speed at which jamstix responds to volume changes.

Bar print and markers are only available in MIDI mode.

Many thanks for your quick responses Doc and Ralph Smile I just had a play around with the velocity settings, particularly the smoothing slider and the response is much better now - infact it's absoloutely perfect. I still have a bit of a problem balancing the guitar/Jamstix levels though. Like I said earlier, I have direct monitoring set to 'off'. Also I am monitoring via my Audiophile 192's M-Audio Delta ASIO. BTW I'm jamming in realtime, which I forgot to mention earlier. After playing around with my guitar level and getting it as low as possible so it can trigger the appropriate velocity response in Cubase I have a more satisfactory balance, but still I find that Jamstix is a little quiet. However, in the context of a song, in the end a single guitar track would without doubt be brought down some so for jam/idea purposes I guess it doesn't hurt to have a higher Jamstix level than normal for the purpose of jamming with guitar. I can easily turn it down once I have recorded it. Ralph - I was convinced I should have been seeing a barprint marker Laughing It must be my imagination but I could swear there used to be one when audio jamming. Again, thanks for your responses. Smile Cool
