Ralph
I posted something along these same lines 3-4 weeks back regarding being able to put a snare acccent onto a pattern in the arrange window like you can with a fill, intro or outro... but the more I use Jamstix and the more I think about it... the more I realise this function is absolutely essential.

We already had a little forum going discussing how the fills in general are a bit 'over the top' for most songs... and you said you would try and incorporate some more basic fills.... but a drum roll or fill can really only be used when bridging certain parts of songs....

in the middle of a verse or anywhere in a song in fact, an 'accent' is far more subtle and sounds more of what a good drummer (with taste) would do.

I think the accents you have written for the snare are really good... but if only I could set up a song arrangement using the same single pattern for all of my verses... and just go into the arrange window and select which pattern bars in each verse could have which accent... well then I'd really have some organic drum programming power at my fingertips!!

I know we can do this in a 'round a bout' way at the moment... but to be able to just click the pattern in the arrange window and have a list of accents for the snare would be wonderful... and then we could see at a glance which pattern in the arrangement has an accent on it (just like we can when we see an 'F' for fill or an 'I' for intro.

What'd'you say Ralph?

I think this is a great idea.

The "round about" way I get around this at the moment is play the song through once and then lock any bars that are good then any that have accents when I don't want I replay them with the accent sliders at zero, and any that I want an accent I play with the accent slider up until I get something I like.

But it would be good to be able to choose the accents for specific bars similar to how we choose fills and endings.

You don't have to go through all that with Jamstix 1.5. You can go to the rhythm tab and click on the snare (or tom) accent box and set a specific accent (or 'No Accent').

As far as direct access to this dialog from the arranger: we'll see what we can do. It's not a minor thing to do and JamBassist has ultra-top priority at the moment.

I thought this was necessary too, at first - a very complex way of trying to arrange a song. But as I incicated in another thread, I found that I had it all wrong.

Here's the key point - WE CAN CHOOSE THE ACCENTS FOR SPECIFIC BARS SIMILAR TO HOW WE CHOOSE FILLS AND ENDINGS.

One click on the bar opens the rhythm tab (for that bar) - you then attach the accent by clicking on the accent box- and it will apply to just the individual bar you clicked on. It's and identical process to adding fills and endings except for one extra click, and just as simple.

But two things...
It is an extra click... and you can't scan your eyes over the arrangement and instantly see where you have put your accents.

Correct. it would be helpful to see them.

However, until we get programming done that will allow us to enter accents the same as fills - it is useful to know that there is a simpler process than RichLum's "round about" way.

Embarassed

I've been quietly complaining to myself about not being able to do this - had missed the feature being introduced
