I get by with an Evolution MK149 (no longer available).
Evolution are probably at the budget end of the market, but they do (IMHO) offer good value for money.
You might want to have a look at the Evolution MK 425c which has loads of assignable knobs but only has two octaves, or the four octave Evolution MK 449c.
Hope that helps!

Everybody seems really cool on this forum...very helpful!
And listening to some of your tracks, you're all pretty talented!
I'd also like to say that the level of service I've seen given seems to be exceptional |

Just had a look at those keyboards....they seem to be fantastic!!! And they're usb powered, too, I believe... and cheap!
Thanks so much! |

Hi!
M-Audio-
Oxygen8, or one of the Radium series would be great for the price IMO...

Hi!
We're having an E-MU Xboard 49 at our studio, I really like the kb, it has aftertouch and is USB powered. There's also a 25 key version. They aren't even too expensive. For myself I got a used Edirol PCR-30, I haven't yet hooked it up to a computer but it seems very cool. |

Hi, first post here, just bought jamstix!
I also have an Evolution MK-149 and am very happy with it:
Pros:
Nice Pitch bend and modulations controls (even better than more recent models)
Program, octave, channel and wheel assign controls all easily accessible.
Cons:
Slightly "spongy" feel to keyboard
No aftertouch
No knobs/sliders for MIDI CC control
Considering it is a cheap keyboard (and available for bargain prices on ebay), I'm more than happy with mine. If you want to send other MIDI messages (eg CCs) then I'd suggest a BCR2000 or BCF2000. I have the BCF2000, and it's unbeatable value for money.
If I had more space and money, I'd go for a larger Fatar keyboard with hammer-type weighted keyboard action and aftertouch.

I'm about to pick up a new midi keyboard as well, and I'll probably be looking at one of the M-Audio offerings.
I currently have an Edirol PCR50 which I really liked for a while, but it now has about 5 or 6 dead keys. After a little bit of Googling I found quite a few people with the same problem, so I'll be avoiding Edirol this time around. |

Yeah..I heard about that...
I just got an Evolution MK425C and couldn't be happier! You get free software, including two synths! |

| For inexpensive keyboards check out M-Audio stuff. The key feel isn't the greatest (I've only tried their non-weighted keys, which actually have a pretty standard feel), but the pitch wheel feels really nice. |
