first is this, my friend (a drummer) came over to do a project with me, and when he set up a rhythm in the rhythm tab (manual mode), we found that the snare would not play at all, UNLESS we turned the "minimum velocity" slider waaaay up.... does this mean, that to have JS play all the aspects (drum parts) of/in the rhythm tab, that I must use the "mute brain" function???? hmmmm, did I just answer my own question....? we did NOT try that... . I guess my point is we wanted the brain, but just to ALWAYS hit the snare on the appointed times, just softer or louder depending on the audio input....

that said, he is way more picky than me, I am happy to control the parameters of JS with the min/max sliders and let 'him' do his thing... with or without all the parts in the rhythm tab playing.... so far anyway...but I see his point, and I may make a project in which I want the snare all the time as well, etc...

the second concern I have is about the graphics... in lets say the arrangement tab, I will pull up the intro/fill/ending window to pick something , then when I close it, it leaves a white space... everything where the window was is whited out if you will....I dont remember this happening before the update, and maybe it did but not a s much.... I run XP/sp2 with a Radeon x800xl 256M vid card with the latest drivers, so I cant believe the video capabilities of the system are in question.... when I minimize the JS window and them max it back up, all graphics are back so.......... I'm just wondering if youve seen/heard of this.... this problem does not seem to hinder the way JS works in any way, just food for thought.

thanks, Barrett (a.k.a. Laboomba)

Turn off 'Allow Reduction' in the jam tab control panel and the snare will play at all velocity levels.

Reduction is a feature that simplifies the current rhythm for low velocities as drummers often do.

Yes, this happens with some hosts and we are working on it. Are you using Sonar?

The redraw issue is actually already fixed in Jamstix 1.5 for Sonar and SAVIHost.

What version does your Jamstix show in the ABOUT tab?

I am running SONAR 4.0.1 and JS is 1.5 for sure...

thank you so much, I feel silly, I always forget about the reduction box.... reduction which like I said before is something I usually like very much... dude, this guy (JS) is just very deep and it is taking me a bit to catch up.... well, and I do have that whole 40hour flippin job thing, gawd how I wish I could play music all day! every day!!!

about the 'redraw', let me know if you want me to try anything special...like I said, it doesnt mess with JS's ability to work or anything... but if you want me to try a reinstall of JS or SONAR or whatever, lemme know, thank you sir!

Log looks great. Does the whole Jamstix GUI go white or just the area where the FIE dialog was?

just the area where the window was... after, if I move the whole JS window off the screen, it will restore the graphics... and if I change tabs, the area that the new tabs encompass come back... you know? but not the bottom that was whited out.....

Glad it's working. I just took a shot at a blind fix based on something I had seen on a machine here a few months ago with a specific video card. This will be in the next beta.

so this beta was JUST FOR THIS? and you made it just THIS EVENING???!

too cool man too cool.............. yea, I am typing from my old laptop so as not to mess with SONAR on the bigrig, and the graphics are perfect so far, a few different projects opened and a few scenarios like messing with all the tabs repeatedly as it ran as well as opening andclosing the IFE window a bunch, all super solid!
