Just fired this off to EM, thought I'd share.
To The Editors:
Caught Electronic Musician's 2006 Editor's Choice Awards in the January issue, and had to write you about a product I was surprised not to see: Jamstix from Rayzoon. I'm not affiliated with Rayzoon in any way, beyond owning a copy of Jamstix.
Every reader of EM toils endlessly with loops and MIDI, struggling (in vein mostly) to create authentic-sounding drum tracks for their recordings. This is probably THE major pain of folks trying to make records at home.
Actually, not true. Some embrace one of the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" genres where the very limitations of the tools form the basis of the style. Repetitive and mechanistic? Yeah man...it's techno!
Jamstix has the potential to turn all this on its head. Load any groove into Jamstix, and it becomes the DNA for an organic, evolving drum PERFORMANCE, which you direct through several means...only one of which is Jamstix' real-time jamming capability.
While you are still going to spend hours working out your drum part, the work is more "musical" - miles from the tedium of traditional drum programming. More like working out the part with a drummer at rehearsal. And the payoff is: "Wow...who's the drummer on that track?"
I'm a big Synful fan, but truly Jamstix has similar potential to fundamentally change the way people make music today. Heck, maybe even the KIND of music they make....here's to a rebirth of performance-oriented music!
Cheers,
Mark Ozanich |

Yes, I am supporting Jamstix too.
So now Jamstix is supported by two doctors, a general practitioner (doc) and a nephrologist (me). No other drummer software can compete with that. Send everyone with drumming problems along and we will write them prescriptions for Jamstix. |

I was thinking of learning to become a doctor, but I didn't have the patience (sounds better when you say it).
Then I thought about learning to be an archeologist, but I soon realised that my career woud be in ruins
The old ones are the best.
ps... looking forward to more Rayzoon releases.....keep up the great work. |
