Hey there, you responded to me at the KVR thread using my composer11 id.

Anyway, in the demo, it shows a somewhat different interface, in SX, Jamstix plays but it changes and doesn't stay on one (1) pattern whereas on the video demostration, it appears that she is using a GUI that is running on it's own while she works on the one pattern whereas in SX, it's going from pattern 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and so on as the timeline moves foward.

The idea is to make a pattern that I like then save and/or export it but it seems jamstix goes from one pattern to another....I just want to build one pattern at a time.

Also, not that anyone will on the vendor end will anwser, but wondering what is better BFD or DFHS2 with Jamstix.

thanks

Hi Composer,
When Jamstix changes patterns on you in SX, are you in manual jam or free jam mode on the jam tab?

What you are describing as your goal is the manual jam. In that mode Jamstix will only change patterns if you instruct it so by clicking on different rhyhthms for different bars in the arranger. If the arranger shows all bars on the first rhythm then it will not change (in manual jam).

Furthermore, if you want to specifically build patterns and store them in the Jamstix library for later use, you can also use MiniHost instead of SX, which was used in the tutorial you are referring to.

Cool will check that out. Where is the MiniHost? Is that a download?

Ok.,found it, now, just as an example...

Using the BASS DRUM as example, how do I create (with x being silent, 1 being quarter note, 2 being 8th note) this simple rock beat.

tempo 120

1-x-2-2-x so it's Boom (snare) Boomboom snare...
thanks

Go to the rhythm tab and click load. Select 'basic' as a keyword and then pick 'Rock Basic II'. This will have the first kick eighth on beat 3.

If you want to switch this to the 2nd kick eighth on beat 3, simply clear the check on the third kick box in the 'Eighths' row and check the second box instead.

Btw, the tempo is set in MiniHost (Main->Show Settings)

That didn't really do what I wanted, I am trying to get a 1-x-11-x where 11 are 8th notes.

Anyway more important, I have BFD non XXL, and was wondering the preference of everyone here vs DFHS using jamstix.

The second question is mapping...

in BFD all, it assigns all the drum parts to seperate tracks in Nuendo, when using Jamstix all.dll (for bfd that is) how do I go about adding the tracks? I'm assuming this is a manual process? Please say it isn't so.

Thanks all.....

few more questions later.
cheers

1-x-11-x sounds like:

Beat 1: Kick
Beat 2: Snare
Beat 3: Kick
Beat 3+: Kick (eighth after 3rd beat)
Beat 4: Snare

Isn't that correct?

Method a) Select 9 outputs in Jamstix mapping tab and close/reload your project for the change to take effect. You may also wish to use 'StereoOutputs=0' in the [General] section of the jamstix.ini file to force Jamstix to use mono outputs since BFD All uses mono outputs.

Method b) Don't load BFD All into Jamstix. Instead, check the box 'MIDI-Out Only' in the Jamstix mapping tab and then select your BFD All mapping of choice. Now load BFD All into Nuendo separately and then add a MIDI track with input=Jamstix and output=BFD.

Thanks will try that today, also, I noticed the "R" and "W" buttons don't work in Cubase SX, if I hit W for record automation in SX and then R for read, nothing changes. I am mapping via BFD and it works but not automation.

Please advise.

Thanks

If you want to automate Jamstix, please use envelopes instead of recording automation from Jamstix.

I don't think I've ever used envelopes in SX, last time I used envelopes was with Sonic/Sony products.....however, are you saying there is no way to auto mate fills and performance in "real time" at all?

Thanks and a tip on how to do would be appreciated.

warm regards and thanks for a great product....

Envelopes are much more powerful than fiddling with sliders in real-time. Also, JS has many automation parameters that have no direct GUI counterpart.

As far as automating fills is concerned: all that is already stored in the JS arranger. So, what exactly would you like to automate and then I'll give you steps to do it via SX envelopes.

Two things....

In the video on arranging, I notice when she selects a certain style, another window pops up (funk) a 3rd window pops up and she can select which of the funk she wants in the arrange pane.

Mine only shows two windows. I never get a 3rd window.

2nd. When I select (example) ROCK and get the 10-16 patterns (still no 3rd window) and then I go to arrange pane, when I select the different sections, and then press play in sequencer, the arrange moves from where I selected to the top one, in this case Fastest is top, then swing low, then wishing well, etc...if I select several different panes then press PLAY, my selected PANE jumps to the top resulting in ONLY the TOP pattern PANE playing....is as of it does not take my changes....the pattern is the same throughout the whole song....am using BFD to map.

Thanks!
