I've just purchased Jamstix with special offer bundle of drumpak 1 & 2 and brushpak. Should I still download the drums samples listed on the Jamstix download page or are these duplicated in the drumpacks?
Many thanks, Froggy |

You definitely need to download and install the default sounds (jamstix_data_setup.exe) because:
a) The DrumPaks still use some of the default sounds (percussion, splash cymbals etc.)
b) On some machines, Jamstix won't launch without the default sounds (we're looking into this as it shouldn't do that) _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks for your reply. I have downloaded the whole lot and installed everything. I'm running under Sonar 5 but not using DirectiXer yet as I'm still trying to work out if it's really going to do the job I want it to.
I have to say that having spent several evenings playing with it, trying to figure it out (and even reading large chunks of the manual) I'm not a great deal further on with getting something useable out. For example, if I get Jamstix to play along in Freejam or Keyword jam with some audio (quite a funky bass track from Sonar demo stuff) it sounds pants and it's way off the rythm of the drum track the song comes with. It feels a bit sloppy and the incidental cymbal splashes, snare bounces and toms are just getting in the way. Reducing all the associated sliders has improved the sound but I'm still not gtting very excited. So far I've spent hours and produced nothing that I want to keep. I really would like this to work (especially having paid my $139) but I need to make some progress soon or it's just a waste of time.
I'll try and get some actual tracks on MP3 to show you what I mean. In the meantime, if you can give me some pointers I'd be very grateful. |

Yes, please send MP3s that illustrate what you are describing.
Have you tried approaching Jamstix from the arranger perspective? This means you wouldn't use the jamming for now but go to the arranger and load one or multiple rhythms from the library and arrange them as you like and add fills where you want them. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
