Hi
I downloaded the demo of this wonderful program this afternoon (UK time) and ran it for at least three hours to test on my system. It worked perfectly from the word go, so I bought the full version. When I tried to run it first time it crashed (the demo did not) so I followed the instructions to disable DEP and treid again.
There appears to be a conflict with the ASIO drivers for my Yamaha DSP Factory. Magix music studio hangs on loading the ASIO drivers, It will run if I select the ASIO drivers for the M-Audio black box but not the Yamaha.
It is confusing as the demo did not do this at all but worked perfectly. I do hope it's something I've done, or not done as I can't wait to use this in anger.
I am using Magix music studio (midi studio actually) 2005 deluxe on an AMD sempron 2500+ 512 MB of Ram, 80 GB disk. DSP Factory, M-Audio Black Box.
BTW I have also upgraded to V1.6 of Jamstix in case this helped. |

Please disable DEP for 'all but system programs and services'.
If Magix hangs on loading the ASIO drivers then you have a fundamental config issue aside from Jamstix. I'd try to get support from Magix on that one.
Please also try the ASIO4ALL drivers as well (www.asio4all.com), they are not the fastest latency-wise but usually very compatible. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi
Thanks for the quick response, I have disabled all but system programs and services, and as I mentioned, Magix did not hang prior to loading the full version of Jamstix. It worked perfectly with the demo as well.
The only thing I have changed is loading Jamstix full version. If I uninstall Jamstix, can I just reinstall the same way as a test?

Hi Steve,
Yes, you can uninstall and reinstall but, honestly, I don't see how that could be it. Jamstix does not install system files, doesn't change registry entries or anything else that could affect Magix.
I recommend you rename jamstix.dll in the 'Jamstix' folder to 'jamstix.dllx' or so. That way Magix cannot see Jamstix and you get a 'No Jamstix' load of Magix. See if the Yamaha ASIO works now. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi Ralph
Renaming the jamstix.dll did indeed solve the problem. (got rid of the symptoms more like!!!)
It looks like there is a conflict somewhere with the VSTi's in general and the Yamaha Drivers maybe only within Magix, I don't have anything else to try it on currently.
I thought I'd used some VST instruments before, but perhaps they weren't as complex as Jamstix. On loading a drum sample player, it hung. Sample tank, works!!!
I guess my question should have been, is there anything different in the way the demo and the full version interact with the VST interface? As the demo worked perfectly.
Anyway, I am getting the updated version of Magix hopefully tomorrow, so I'll try it in there.
I'm itching to dump some of my old drum tracks for some of Jamstix, so I hope this works. Otherwise it may be another sound card although I like the DSP factory and it's onboard effects.

Please see if you have a rzdlog.txt file in your Jamstix folder and send it to me (support[at]rayzoon.com).
Also, check your 'samples' folder inside of your Jamstix folder for a file called 'Chimes Fast _a01.rzd'. Let me know if it isn't there. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks for your speedy attention Ralph. I'll give it a thorough going over tomorrow, but it now seems to be behaving.

For all others: I suggested to Steve via E-mail to use the LateWSLoad=1 ini parameter, which appears to have fixed the issue. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Totally off-topic here:
Hello Steve, welcome to the board.
I see you´re from Swindon!
Just a short note: I´m a huge XTC fan (for those who don´t know: XTC, the great English songwriters, the "better Beatles", are Swindon- based).
Greetings!
>>
Hope you get your problem sorted!

Hi Doc
Yes, XTC are Swindon's biggest band. Just my era as well, but I am really inot more sedate music these days (mostly).
Ralph, just to follow up, it has been behaving very well today, thanks again for your help. I now just have to learn and understand how to get the best out of it.
Regards
Steve |
