1. have a large ammount of pre sequenced midi files and want a realistic drum sound
2. want some humanization put into these
3. want to be able to create new drum tracks without the need to sequence in midi
4. want something which a simple fellah like me can use
daftest questio of all, is jamstix a drum machine like an alesis sr16 but in software?

Hi, Minty, and welcome to the board!

Jamstix is designed to create its own rhythms or use its library rhythms. However, it has an import function that allows you to import drum patterns from MIDI files (with limitations), which you can then easily embellish or modify in Jamstix and save to the library.

Yes.

Yes, Jamstix has a built-in arranger that makes assembling a drum track with rhythm changes, fills etc. very easy.

Jamstix can be used in easy ways or complex ways, depending on what you are trying to achieve. I'd say there is a learning curve here. Some take to Jamstix very quickly and others need a bit of help. We're here to help in any way we can.

In a way, yes but there is much more to Jamstix than that. For starters, it can generate new rhythms on the fly, react to instrument input, has a built-in arranger and various functions to keep the output human-playable.
Furthermore, the sound quality is substantial, especially with the sound expansions (DrumPaks). _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Just as a FYI for Minty: I bought Jamstix last week and can easily use my Drumtrax midi files and the midi files that come with the Linplug RMIV drum machine. |
