Hello,

I'm interested in your product..i run sonar and gigastudio and for years
have struggled with the drum parts in my songs...but also would like to create a drum groove only {playing my giga samples}and have it running indefinately while it plays along with me on my acoustic piano.{like a stand alone drum machine}

Is this possible and if so how would i set this up....to be honest im not a real big fan of all the dxi vst..stuff...but maybe i need to get over it...

thanks so much for your time

Dave

Is your Giga on a separate machine? If not, have you set things up so Sonar MIDI tracks can play Gigasounds?

experienced with dxi and vst...seems to use lots of resources...and application interface seemed to be so small{ itried garritons personal orchestra}

can i set up yours like a stand alone drum machine triggering external samples or even using its internal voices..so i can improvise on my grand?

You can run Jamstix in Sonar in manual mode or free jam mode with MIDI piano input. (See 'Free Jam Quick Start' PDF in Jamstix demo manual for setup info for Sonar)

Sonar unfortunately doesn't support VSTi MIDI output so you cannot route the Jamstix output to Gigasounds unless you jump through some hoops (DirectiXer). Since you probably want to keep things simple for now I'd recommend DrumPak1/DrumPak 2 which will give you very good internal drum sounds, especially considering the price.

Try the demo and I'll help with any questions you may have.

i just asked if i could easily set up your program as a play along drum machine?????????????????

i want to hit a button on my sequencer or your program....then turn around in my chair and play my piano,,,not a midi piano , a real piano,,,while your program plays the drums.

can it do this?

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Yes, you can set Jamstix up as a drum machine:

  • register Jamstix demo with the Cakewalk VST wrapper.
  • open Sonar and choose Insert->DXI Synth->VST->Rayzoon Jamstix Demo
  • Jamstix will now be open, click 'Free Jam'.
  • set desired tempo in Sonar
  • arm any track in Sonar for recording since Sonar doesn't play empty projects
  • Hit Record in Sonar

After a few beats, Jamstix will start playing drums. You can then manipulate the rhythm via the jam tab controls.

You can also use Jamstix in 'Manual Jam' mode and select specific rhythms from the library in the rhythm tab.

A third option is to use 'Keyword Jam' where Jamstix plays rhythms it selects from the library based on key words you select.

An alternative to arming a track for record is to set a one or two bar loop point. SONAR will loop the selected region without record being armed.
