There is one other issue I noticed that didn't exist with Jamstix 3: I noticed that I now had to press spacebar twice for my host to receive the command, spacebar being the all-important shortcut for play/stop in my DAW.
The manual now states that spacebar is a bar editor keyboard command for returning keyboard focus to the host and therefore the first press is not passed on. Yet...
(1) I also have to return focus to the DAW by pressing spacebar if I'm not using the bar editor at all; making brain changes with the mouse is enough for the first spacebar to not go through.
(2) couldn't the spacebar keypress itself also be passed on to the host? Since spacebar is not otherwise used by Jamstix, why not directly pass it on and perhaps introduce an additional shortcut for returning focus only, i.e. you could have two shortcuts: spacebar for returning focus + sending spacebar to the host; and some other new shortcut for only the former, if necessary.
Working with Jamstix 4 has already made me adapt my workflow by routinely pressing spacebar twice, yet it seems that the current implementation is not ideal. |

I just had to post to say that I've been using Jamstix 4 for a few days now, and I'm loving it!
The new interface is definitely more intuitive to me, and some of the confusion I had with earlier versions of Jamstix is better now.
I especially like that you can apply the Easy/Normal/Pro filter to the Brain.
Thanks Ralph! |

| I installed the upgrade yesterday from Jamtsix 3 to 4.0.4 (64-bit) with the MetalPak. I did a complete install, not upgraded from free version or using sounds from v3. When I select a Style or Player from the MetalPak I get an error saying the AI Pak is required. Also, the last Style in the Metal list is Red, but when I select it, it shows the MetalPak is required. |

Please email me C:\ProgramData\Jamstix4\data\inventory.txt and also tell me one specific drummer name this happens with, just to be sure.

That style, 'U-Pick Metal 2-Bar', is actually from the AIPak. The next Jamstix update will correct this inventory entry. Thanks for the catch! _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Thanks Ralph, I'll send that out to you tonight. I'm planning to get the AI pak but thought I should post the bug info while I can test the fix. |

Just wanted to say how much I am enjoying working with JS4. Really digging into the manual and seeing what can be done with this program is really surprising. I am still working on my first song on it and am about halfway through.
So Ralph to you and your team, thanks for a great program. |

We're glad you're enjoying JS4, especially the way you're digging into all the possible aspects of use! _________________ Ralph Zeuner

|
|
Loving Jamstix 4 ... so much that I purchased the BonzoPak to go with it.
Back when I installed Jamstix 4, I chose to re-use the JS3 sounds, rather than download duplicate sounds for JS4.
When I installed the BonzoPak, it skipped downloading the sounds.
Luckily, I know a little bit about computers, and was able to edit the Jamstix "installer.ini" file from
to
When I ran the installer again, it downloaded the BonzoPak sounds to the Jamstix 4 library directory listed in the "installer.ini" file:
| Code: |
DataFolder=E:\Sample Libraries\Jamstix4
|
Jamstix 4 didn't recognize that I had the BonzoPak sounds until I copied the files from the JS4 directory to the JS3 directory, and restarted Jamstix.
Everything is good now, but I wonder:
a) Was there an easier way to do this? Did I miss some instruction or setting that would have installed the BonzoPak correctly the first time?
b) Should I change the library path in "installer.ini" to be my Jamstix 3 library path, so that it will put the sounds there if I install another extension Pak?

The recommended way is to uncheck 'Use JS3 Sounds' in the Install Options of the manager, which will trigger a full download/install of all sound files to JS4. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
