Ralph
with my new DP#2 samples.... I'm so into them that I've gotten into the mapping and out-put channels of Jamstix... because... I will be using certain elements of the DP#2 samples in my final products..... more than I thought I would be... maybe even the entire kit...

So I'm now wanting to start separating the channels so I can 'bounce' down mono or stereo tracks of the snare on it's own (to kick BFD's butt!!) or the Kick or hats alone.... or even to EQ or compress each Jamstix DP#2 kit piece individually...

This takes a while to do... but is straight-forward enough...

I just set up as many outputs as I will need.. restart Jamstix... name the new output channels in my Cubase VSTi mixer.. (JS Kick, JS Snare, JS Hihats, etc...) then go into the mapping tab and route each kit piece to it's appropriate output channel... it's tedious...and fiddly... but I can handle it..

the problem I've encountered is with the mapping.
The mapping won't save with a CUBASE SX2 Project Template. (I always use my own custom project templates... saves a lot of time!)

If I set up a CUBASE SX2 Project Template and call it 'JAMSTIX' an dthen open it... nearly everything will open up perfectly.... all my cubase mixers.... my plugins.. JAMSTIX....etc... but... Jamstix only opens with the 'default' mapping..

I actually want to have two CUBASE SX2 Project Templates for Jamstix... one for DP#2 and one for my Brushpack...

So now... for example... when I open one of my CUBASE SX2 Project Templates for Jamstix, even if it was saved with the DP#2 close mic stereo kit... or the Brushkit.. it always opens with the default kit..

Now this would JUST be a plain old boring pain in the ass... and I could get by, by just load up a mapping from my JAMSTIX Mapping list... except guess what??

When I load a new mapping for say.... 'DP#2 Close stereo'.... the channel mapping I have spent ages 'assigning' is gone... the whol ekit is back to being mapped through one stereo channel!!

So if I want to open any Jamstix kit with any number of templates (that I am well pre-pared to spend the initial time setting up) I have to go in and re-assign the kit pieces to the output channels....every time!!

Ralph... if I'm being a 'dunce' and I'm doing something wrong here...please tell me what it is.... or how I can go about solving this...

Otherwise I'm sure you'll fix it and get it working just fine (hey no hurry)

I don't own Jamstix yet, and I never worked with Cubase, so I really have no real clue, but just an idea: what if you set everything up the way you want to and then save the drumkit from within Jamstix as default.rdm, making it the default setup for Jamstix? So don't only save a template for Cubase but also a 'template' (the default settings) for Jamstix. Maybe that'll help?

You could also try saving the bank (fxb) and preset files (fxp), if you have an option to do this.

With the X8-5 beta you can do this:

Create one mapping (DP2 or whatever) with your desired custom routing. Load that mapping whenever you need this routing. You can then load other mappings (which have single output routing) but close the lock icon on the output slider before loading them. This will preserve your current output routing.

OK Ralph
I'll try this...
but why won't a Jamstix kit of my choice load with my CUBASE project file?

I pretty sure all other VSTi's (battery, BFD, sampletank) will hold the exact samples sets that I have set-up when I save them in a CUBASE SX2 Project Template

I've tried this with sfz as an external VSTi as well as DP2 for an internal mapping. I create a project, load JS, select the desired mapping and save the project as a template.

When I now create a new project with this template my saved mapping is recalled as well.

This is with SX2. Please advise.

I've tried this again and again... Cubase SX2 will not open a Template with my Jamstix kit mapping preference of choice.

Very odd, please send me your jamstix.ini file to support at rayzoon.com

You mentioned something about using the lock icon in the 'mapping' tab... can you elaborate on this? How and what does that do?

Before loading a mapping, close the lock next to the output slider and the new mapping will not overwrite your current output selections for any sound.

Also, as 'J VAN E' mentioned... if I open up the exact kit I want (DP#2) and map it how I want.. and save THAT calling it 'DEFAULT' will it always open with my DP#2 kit (or my chosen kit)?

Yes, if you save a DP2 mapping as 'default' then that becomes your new default mapping.

I know if it works for you.. as you say it does... then one might think it would be my setup... my computer and my Cubase that was the issue.. but all my other VSTi's (Battery, BFD, Sampletank..etc) all open in cubase Template and song files in the same form they were saved as... with the corresponding sample sets of my choice... only Jamstix is refusing to save it's settings..

It may just be a config issue in Jamstix. I'll know more once I get your jamstix.ini file.

I have sent you my jamstix.ini file.... I hope this helps solve the problem.

To put my problem in perspective:

I recently downloaded Native Instruments (excellant) Guitar Rig 2 as a demo from their site. It is operational for 30 days and you only can use it for 30 minutes at a time... then you have to re-open it and start again.

It is fully functional...you can 'bounce tracks' with the Guitar rig plugin on them.... no bleeps or ocassional periods of silence.. you'll have those bounced tracks for-ever they won't 'expire'

The One thing you cannot do... is save your custom set-ups and sounds that you make... and it always opens (or re-opens) up blank so you gotta spend some of that 30 mins setting up the amp/cabinet and FX setting you want to use... this makes it annoying to use... but gives you enough of a 'taste' that you want more... it is a demo version after all...

Why the story about Guitar rig?

....because...to Me this is how Jamstix is operating.... not saving it's settings and selected component preferences with a Cubase song or project template..

The difference is that some clever code writers at N.I.'s set up the Guitar Rig 2 demo to act in this way on purpose... and it works exactly how they want it to...

Anyway I hope my Jamstix.ini will shed some light on this problem... as I have mentioned before... I've tested all my other VSTi's and they open and close and open again, holding all settings, preferences and selected samlpe sets!

Good luck

We are working on solving this issue. I just sent you a mail back. Please be patient with us, there are plenty of SX users here that do not have this problem.

Thanks again!
