Just wondering if the software is still in active development, and if V5 is in the works? The forum is a bit dead the last few years.

You will still find some lost souls. We refuse to leave. But we are not able to give any clue about the current or future development. We are just lost souls.

Jamstix is still working well for me in Cubase 14. I can't think of anything major that I would like to see in a version 5 except for VST 3.
And the only reason for that is because of the eventual sunset of VST 2.
They have already "dropped support" when using VST 2 plugins which, I assume, means they won't help you troubleshoot a problem with a VST 2 plugin enabled. Luckily, I haven't been having any problems. There are a few very minor things I have noticed but are easy to work with such as window focus and keyboard commands. The main one being when you close the Jamstix window, it doesn't automatically transfer window focus back to Cubase (easily fixed by clicking anywhere in the cubase window of course).
If I remember correctly, hitting the space bar before closing the Jamstix window will transfer the focus back to Cubase (it might just be for transport control though, not sure)

I just dropped by for my occasional check in. Sadly it seems to have been left to wither away.
I would really love there to be at least one last release that delivered current functionality in native VST3 to ensure DAW compatibility for the next few years, but even that seems unlikely.

What exactly does VST3 support actually offer other than Steinberg not telling you to hit the road if you're looking for support? I wouldn't mind seeing it supported in Jamstix, but I honestly have not run across a single VST plugin that I use that had some added function that I had to have after trying both versions. I could have missed what it added but I got by without it also.

Here is the AI response to VST3 vs. VST2. I really don’t think that these things would make much difference in the use case of Jamstix. So, it mostly comes down to a hard version requirement. I don’t think Steinberg would completely force block VST2 anytime soon though.

VST3 is the modern standard, offering benefits like better CPU usage, dynamic resizable interfaces, improved MIDI control, and adaptive multi-output support, making it the preferred choice over the older VST2 format. VST3 also offers better performance and stability, though VST2 might still be necessary for older plugins or DAWs that lack VST3 support.
Key Differences
Performance: VST3 generally offers better CPU efficiency, especially when using the same plugin on multiple tracks.
Resizable Interface: VST3 plugins allow you to dynamically scale their interface by dragging a corner, a feature not available in VST2 plugins.
MIDI Control: VST3 provides a dedicated event handler bus for more detailed MIDI control, including note-level pitch bend and the ability to support multiple MIDI ports simultaneously.
Adaptive Multi-Output: VST3 requires only one plugin instance to handle multiple outputs, unlike VST2, which needs separate files for each output configuration.
Installation: VST3 plugins typically install to a common folder on your C drive, which can be less flexible than VST2, where you could choose custom locations.
Cross-Platform Compatibility: VST3 is designed for cross-platform use with Windows, macOS, and Linux, making it ideal for collaboration and future-proofing your projects.

Oh okay, I can see the cross platform compatibility being a big one that I didn't know about. The rest, with the exception maybe of better midi handling don't seem like a needed feature for anything I've done in the past. Thanks jas.

You'd have to ask Ralph.

Is there some big secret? I've been a customer since v1 decades ago and Ralph was always the big Kahuna and the busiest guy on the forum. If this now is abandonware, that's ok - I got great value from the software, but the veiled responses are disappointing.

Hey squibs,

I honestly wasn't trying to be snarky, Ralph truly is the only one who could answer that question. We're all just as much in the dark on the matter as you are. Sorry if I came off as being sarcastic, it wasn't intended to be.

You act like there's a conspiracy. Truth is no one knows except Ralph. We're users like you. Azimuth's answer was the best that can be given under the circumstances.

I know when I bought it last year I had a username issue and emailed him in the evening; he took care of it the next morning.

I believe that last year someone posted something claiming Ralph said he was working on VST3 support, but I don't feel like looking for it Razz

I'm still using Jamstix, it is the only piece of software that can do what it can do, and there are no real alternatives in terms of realism, ease of use, versatility and results.

I really hope that someone will take JS legacy. I see a lot of potential now that AI has entered the game. Maybe it could be sold to a third company, such as toontrack or native instruments.

But I will continue to use JS as long as it can be loaded in my DAW or a better software will come up.

I just got the eMail about the end of year sales. It sounds good. Only problem is that I already have absolutely all expansions JS has to offer. Should we keep dreaming for something in 2026?
