|
| Jamstix does not give me the syncopation I'm looking for in some of my material. The 16th before is too late, and the 16th after is WAY too late. I'm trying to get a triplet feel over 4/4 time, but I'm having problems. Is there any help out there?!?!?!? |

What sounds do you want to have the 3lerts on? There are triplet options for hihats in the hihat panel. Also, try the 16th shuffle option in the jam tab. If all fails, send me a brief MP3 of a sample rhythm and I'll see what I can do translating it into JS. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| I'm looking for a triplet feel on the kick. I tried the 16th shuffle, but I'm a newbie and maybe didn't get it right. Although it's not the kind of music I'm looking for, but if you are at all familiar with the Latin dotted-quarter-note-on-the-bass type feel, that's the closest thing to where I'm going. |

A dotted 8th is not part of a triplet. Please give us an example MP3 or popular song reference or a notation. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Listened to the MP3 you posted.
EDIT: Whoops wait, by the MP3 do you mean that's what you want, or that's what you're getting right now that you don't like? If the MP3 demo is what your aiming for, ignore the rest of my post. :P
The first kick note IS a dotted quarter note, but it has eighth note swing.
So right now basically the pattern is: (bold is where the kick hits, italicized is the snare hit)
||: 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 :||
The eighth note swing is pretty accentuated in this pattern. Are you looking more for a triplet feel that doesn't outline the swing? Maybe a pattern more like this?
Example 1:
||: 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 :||
Or something like this?
Example 2:
||: 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 :|| |

There are two keys to this rhythm:
a) It's a shuffle
b) The hats are playing triplets, not the kick
Here's a rhythm that approximates your MP3:

Just put it in your 'Rhythms' folder and load 'Ricm9'. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

No problem. Go to the rhythm tab and click 'Load', then select 'Ricm9' from the list on the right. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| OK, the Hi-hat is great, but the kick you sent wasn't quite there. I used the "before the beat" on the 3rd beat, and that was a LOT closer, but still was just a tad behind where I need it. Any suggestions? |

My apologies! I have been quite pre-occupied. I'll definitely look at this this weekend and will get back to you. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I double-checked your MP3 and the RRF file I posted and it is the same groove to me. Make sure you have 8th Shuffle checked (not 16th) and Jamstix 1.6. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
