Ralph
Is there any way that Jamstix could be coded so that you could use the output to VST function so I could send the hopping-popping-grooving soul of Jamstix out to BFD... BUT... still have one stereo channel of BFD's internal sounds so that I could (you guessed it!) use the AMAZING snares of the Jamstix Snarepak?

I know this can be done in a long, drawn out tedious manner by out-putting a (static) midi file and setting up BFD as a midi channel and then muting all of jamstix except the snare....

But that is time consuming...and... your midi track is 'static' it can not be altered...

I think your Jamstix kick and hats are VERY adequate... but the BFD ones are just 'bigger and more 3D'...(and, as I've mentioned 20 times before)... your snares are 'bigger and more 3D'.. while BFD's just aren't.

I know this is a BIG ask.... but it would be fantastic.

Only a quick idea :
Why not make a JS GM mapping with only the snare loaded and send JS's MIDI output to BFD with a muted snare ?
Cheers, Rhino

Rhino is spot on. Load the 'Internal Silence' mapping and then load the desired snare and use BFD via MIDI out. You may have to adjust key mappings to match the BFD layout. Save it and you're all set.

OK...
That would work for me... I'm into using fully customized CUBASE SX templates anyway... so I can set up a template to do this.

I'm not sure I fully understand what has been suggested... let me run through it and you guys tell me if I have teh right idea...

I assumed you could not do what you've suggested because as soon as you use Jamstix Midi out option (I thought) you disable any internal sounds... but I am thinking of the extrenal VSTi option...

So what I do is setup jamstix to internal silence... load my snare of choice... set jamstix to midi out.. load BFD as a midi track... mute the BFD snare (or better still 'un-engage' it from the BFD RAM list) and their I have it!

Awesome!
Thanks

There's a checkbox "MIDI out only" on the mapping page - obviously you don't want to check this.
First load JS as Ralph described, then load BFD as a VSTi and create a MIDI track, output to BFD, input from JS, voila.
Have fun, Rhino

Thanks Rhino
I tried it
I like it

The BFD kit driven by Jamstix (without a BFD snare) and the JS Snarepak snares are a match made in heaven... they sound wonderful together.

However, one problem still lingers.... the BFD ride will not play.
Does this mean I need to load the BFD All mapping? If I do this I have lost the 'internal silence' mapping that Ralph suggests I use for this method.

Do I need to load the BFD All mapping so that all of JS midi outs relate to BFD and manually 'silence' everything but the snare? Then save it as custom mapping?

Make sure you have bell ride enabled in BFD as JS uses both, ride and ride bell based on velocity.

Do you mean an MP3 of jamstix playing the Snarepak snare and BFD doing the rest of the kit?

Sure I'd be happy to post an MP3.....

First I'll have to be told HOW to post an MP3.
Where do I attach it? Somewhere on the 'post a reply' page? Where?

Paspallum sent us this example of Jamstix driving BFD and an internal Jamstix snare simultaneously:

BFD SnarePak Demo

This is BFD Slingerland kit and SnarePak Slingerland Brass snare. The audio is unprocessed.

Thanks, Paspallum!

Do you mean the beats our the kit that sound like Michael Jackson?

The rhythm patterns are just basic 'off the shelf' Jamstix patterns I just used 5 from one set... and put a simple intro and outr at the beginning and end of each song.... I did no 'tweaking' to the patterns at all.

Michael Jackson has written some great music (and sold a lot of records) But who played drums on that track? I mean, to watch Mickael Jackson sing and dance you know he is one of the greatest 'POP' musicians ever... but I've never seen him with a guitar or bass in his hands... or at a drumkit or piano?? But we never hear of his 'backing' players?? Does Michael indeed play multi-instrumnets (like Prince or Paul McCartney??)

Is this even the right forum to be discussing such a subject??

Nice sound, paspallum, I think Ralph´s snares are the best, no question. I´ve bought BFD deluxe and I have to say that toms and hihat are the best, but when we talk about snares, even BFD deluxe are weak sound, snarepack is our best kept secret. Don´t tell it to anyone. Your mp3 sound like a real kit, nice snare crisp sound (and nice overall kit too!!)

Greetings
