What is the best way to preview different drum sounds?

This is all I could find in the manual, chapter 12.5:

Clicking on a kit will display its contents on the right side and, if the Preview button is highlighted, the kit will be previewed with the currently playing rhythm.

Based on that, it would seem that the best way to preview the sounds of different snares would be to create 1 bar of nothing but snare hits and then keep loading different kits to hear their differences?

If you want to find a different snare, go to the kit, select the snare and then click the sound name in the kit editor to open the sound load dialog. Here you can check a 'Preview' box and every sound will be played once when you select it in the list.
