Hi - now and then I have a crash in JS3, mainly I think because of low computer memory (XP). The Cubase 6.5 program as often as not then becomes corrupted, and I need to shut down and reopen both. Seems I can minimize those crashes by saving in Jamstix 3 frequently - not sure about that, but I think that's the case.

The problem I have has to do with: missing automation in the Cubase drum tracks (kick, snare, tom, hat, etc.) when I reboot and bring up the programs again. These individual drum tracks in Cubase don't open up when the Cubase project is reopened (since it's JS3 that "populates" Cubase with those tracks), and the automation in those tracks from the previous work (not unexpectedly) is missing when they are added in by the newly rebooted JS3 ("JS Track 1", "JS Track 2" instead of what I had labelled as "Kick", "Snare". etc.).

Is there something I can do so that automation is retrievable when this happens?

Thanks -

A bit more RAM would be good. In the meantime, save often in Cubase (not Jamstix) so you can retrieve all data. One thing that works for me is to save with incrementing numbers, i.e. MySong1, MySong2, MySong3 etc. When I reach 9, I start saving again to 1 and so forth. That way I have nine revisions to fall back on.

Thank you for that, Ralph.

I am having a hard time trying to apply your answer, I think I didn't explain my problem well, here it is again.

1) I'm well into a frequently saved Cubase project, with 8 VSTi tracks for JS3 (JS1 which I've relabelled "Kick", JS2 track as "Snare", … JS8 as "Ambience"), each of which is well-automated.
2) Message appears like "JS3 wasn't saved w/ host, please do xyz" (sorry, can't remember the details).
3) Soon thereafter both stop working, often w/ "out of memory" messages in both. So I close down both programs.
4) When I open up Cubase again and JS3 again, JS3 opens w/ a generic song, not the one I was working on.
5) I then do "Load Song", or sometimes "Load restore point" in JS3.
6) Here is the key part: when Cubase reboots, only one JS3 output is active by default - Cubase requires manual activation if I want all 8 JS3 outputs. *****The eight Cubase drum tracks that then appear are "virgin" - named JS1, JS2, etc. (not as I renamed them "Kick", "Snare", etc. before the crash), and most importantly all my automation for each drum track is gone..*****

My real problem then is - trying to figure out where all that automation went to when things crashed, so I can put it back. Did it get put w/ Cubase … if so, where? Is it in JS3?

Thanks, Ralph for any further help you might be able to give. Would sending you some kind of log help?

(BTW, you wrote "Save often in Cubase …" (which I do - Autosave every 5 min, and frequently more often manually) "…not Jamstix". Actually I save often in JS3 as well (via the restore point), I thought that would be good because of the "Low memory in JS3" messages I sometimes get. Was I actually making things worse, not better?).

The automation is in Cubase, not JS3, which is why I would load the last good Cubase project file for the song instead of just a JS3 file backup.

Please send me Documents\Jamstix3\rzdlog.txt so I can take a look at memory usage.
