|
|
I'm on a dead line to finish a project in a couple of hours, so I need to know 2 things VERY soon.
I've mapped my Snare to a VST & now I have no sound. Obviously I need to do more than just map the snare to the VST.
1) So, how do I GET sound?
2) How do I "un-map" the snare?
When I removed the plugin, the snare still has no sound.
Thank you for the help & sorry for the desperation. |

| Tell us a bit more. Which DAW are you using? How did you map it? Are you only routing the snare? Without knowing anything else my gut says to open the mixer in Jamstix and turn off 'downmix' and 'AMB to Last' |

I was trying to add reverb to just the snare & when I routed it to the snare I lost the sound of the snare. I assume there was no route back from the plugin.
I finally removed the snare & added it back to get the sound back, but I still don't actually understand how the VST thing works.
Maybe somebody could give me the low down? What do I do if I'm trying to add reverb to just the snare? |

Hey Bamim2, I hope you got your project done.
Here is how I do this in Reaper (should be similar in whatever your DAW is).
I create routing for separate tracks for Kick, Snare, HH, Toms, etc. I then simply put a reverb FX on the snare track and I am all set.
Again the 'downmix' setting in the Jamstix mixer has to be off.
Downmix basically switches between a stereo pair output and full kit routing.
Because of the 'downmix control' I don't think that you can route only the snare, I think you have to route all or none but I might be wrong. Maybe someone else can chime in to verify or offer an alternative.
Personally I like control in my DAW for each piece of the kit (or grouping), so I have several track templates for jamstix with routing and FX's already in place so I can do it with one click.
Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the input. It was helpful. I did get my project done & submitted on time because I just deleted the snare, then added a new one. As often happens (at least to me), when I'm in a panic, somehow I managed to come out of things better off than before. The whole reason I was going for the reverb was that I wasn't really happy with the sound of the snare. When I put a new snare in place, I lucked out & after a couple of tries I found one that was just what I was looking for.
I totally forgot/missed the thing about my DAW. Sorry. I use Reaper sometimes, but mostly when I'm working on the PC I use Sonar or Pro Tools. I'll try your suggestions & see how it works. I really should do what you do & get a better mix of the drums. Maybe this will give me the kick in the butt I need to step up my game. Thanks again for staying with me on this. |
