Using Reaper in W7.
I'm experiencing a problem with 3.1 that I haven't seen in recent updates/betas. I'm having notes disappear from both the audio and the bar editor that were previously there. I can restore them only by re-composing but then some other bar will act up.
Here's a pic - Skip Funk by James Stix with the kick overridden - missing all snare and HH after the first beat:
I've tried a few work-around tricks that have worked in the past to no avail. I've closed everything and started the project over as new and still had the same issues. Right now, I'm afraid to open anything I have time invested in for fear of losing my work.
Thanks for any help! |

This happened to me as well
I'm not sure what cured it but I made sure I searched my hard drive for duplicate instances of jamstix3.dll.Then re-installed the 3.1.Also in some projects I use ProteusVX Synth/sample player and and had to re-save it's bank on that project in Reaper.
But I think I know what cured it and that was to re-use the Options,"Migration" tool to make sure all kit sounds were loaded as I have always progressed through from Jamstix 2 and have the Metal and Bonzo paks.Does no harm to re-use the Migration tool from time to time just to make sure you have all kit sounds loaded
I suspect 3.1 treats it as a fresh install and needs to be re-informed of the kit loadings.
Seems to have cured it but will keep an eye on it.

Paul, some styles compose large chunks of bars in one go. If a recompose is triggered during a bar, some parts may stay empty. Best solution is to stop the host, click COMPOSE, go to a bar in front of the part in question and let it play the whole part through.
If you do not change brain settings for a part, you should not experience this issue.
Also, you can uncheck AUTO in the bar editor so JS won't recompose all bars of a part when you hit COMPOSE. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| You could be right Ralph but I never had this problem no matter what I did in pre 3.1 versions? |

It's still doing it.There's definitely something wrong with 3.1 Ralph.I never had these problems with the Betas. Also I cannot go back to previous versions. If I do use an older version I get an error when JS loads in Reaper saying it needs 3.1 or later.
This could potentially ruin years of work Ralph!!

Well I've saved the missing parts for a 3rd time and they seem to have taken so hopefully it's just a Reaper Glitch as I'd hate to have to redo projects pre-3.1
Is there anyway to allow users to revert to previous versions Ralph just in case? |

Are you saying you can load a pre-3.1 project, never hit play and find bars missing data? _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I appreciate the speedy responses from you both.
Let me reiterate that my problem is not that the parts aren’t getting composed – they are. But when they are then left unattended, with no re-composing and no brain changes, they later seem to (for lack of a better word) “de-compose”, losing notes in an apparently random fashion.
I have tried a lot of things over the past couple of days and none of them have worked so I won’t detail them. But I’d like to share a couple of specific tests that have failed and some other wonky things that may or may not be related.
I have one bar in the song I’ve been working on that is essentially a pause. For the time being, I cleared the entire bar, manually entered kick-hat-hat-hat and locked it. These manual notes have all disappeared more than once.
I’m not even trying to fine-tune anymore but back when I was, I’d preview a fill in the bar editor and hit compose repeatedly while fiddling with the brain (or not). Several times, this would lock up the bar editor. It didn’t lock Reaper though and if I went away and clicked on a few other things I could come back and try again.
If a part is working fine and I save the project and close it, then open it again, there may be dropouts.
If I preview a bar and then change the HH style from 8th to dual 16th, it initially makes the change okay. If I change it back, it doesn’t get rid of all the 16th notes. If I continue to change back and forth, I continue to get errors, just not the same thing every time. Hitting "compose" fixes everything, every time - until I make the next brain change.
I started a new project and simply accepted the default songbuilder song. Chose one bar and started the preview. Increased the busyness of the kick and it worked. Decreased the busyness back to zero and all kinds of notes disappeared – kick, snare and hat. Not all of them, but all in one part of the bar.
When I get “new” dropouts throughout a song, there seems to be some consistency between the “damaged” bars, like they’re following the same rules or trying to. When I first had problems, a lot of the dropouts were that the whole second beat and maybe part of the third were disappearing. Same song, same project, different day and now my most popular corruption seems to be that the “4-and” high-hat goes missing.
The only thing that I’ve been able to work right is when I used the default songbuilder song and didn’t change or re-compose anything. I played it through four or five times and didn’t see any dropouts.
I should mention that all the Reaper projects I'm talking about here have one track with Jamstix only and nothing else in them at this point.
Love the software, Ralph, and I’m not trying to “pile on” here. I share all this in the hopes that you’ll see some connection and be able to get us fixed up. |

No.I was saying that I cannot revert back to an earlier version of jamstix3.dll
so I could use the beta that wasn't causing any problems.
and from the post above simiar,

Paul, I have found the cause for what you are seeing. The next beta will have a fix.
Sheppol: could you get me two JS3 song files (or REAPER projects) of the same project. One where all is well, and the second where data has disappeared without recompose? _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Will do but as stated since redoing the project's missing parts several times and saving them it's not done it but will save them if it does |

Great! Glad you got it sussed out so quickly.
I'm a bit hog-tied on my current projects though. How should I set my timing expectations for the fix? Or alternatively, can you give me any tips for what I should do (or not do) if I want to keep using Jamstix in the meantime? |
