I just noticed this, not sure if it's new or if it's always been there, but anyway...

The ambience for my cymbals appears to be stuck in the wrong place. That is, if I pan the china off to the right, and hit it, the direct output is panned appropriately but the ambience is panned to the left. However, if I pan it to the left and hit it again, the ambience stays right where it was (which is now the correct side).

I've tried this with most of the cymbals/hats that I've got, and it seems to be hit-or-miss as to which ones work properly and which don't. Some have the ambience stuck on one side, some on the other.

Any idea what's going on here, Ralph?

(And yes, I'll feel like a complete dumbass if there's some switch I flipped by mistake)

Here's my current kit, if it helps: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7231524/SSD%20Custom.j2k

Cheers.

There is an option to 'flip stereo' to switch between audience and drummer perspective but I would assume that the Ambience should follow this Question

Ambience is not panned with the PAN sound setting because it is a stereo signal and the PAN is designed to align the mono close mic signal to it.

In a roundabout way, that's what I was trying for - pan the direct tracks to match the ambience. However, if each instrument is set up with a specific, fixed ambience position, should they perhaps default to being panned to match it?

We are considering adding pan to ambience but it would require some work as we'd need the know the implied pan position of each ambience sample. Most of all, panning a non-centered ambient sample is not as natural as panning a mono signal.
