I have tried to make JS2 learn my rythm from mido from scratch but it always adds beats that destroy my rythm and create something more close to the original preset.
Can you just make the drummer learn from scratch without him adding any beats where it's inappropriate and adding them yourself if you want ?
For example I've got a swinging jazz beat going inside the midi part and I would like to let jamstick choose the random velocities and soimetimes skip some ride cymbals in the process and do some toms.
But when I enable the learn button on the "jam wit midi" mode , it will always start shifting the bass drums and the snares so my rythm becomes entirely different .
Also when I dial the power knob to a lower setting it always jumps back to maximum.
Is there a way you can just say to the drummer "wait for input" with a blank slate ? |

Start with 'Silent' as the style and 'Machine' as the drummer. That way no extras are added to the groove.

You must either have an envelope in the host on 'Power Level' that overrides your manual change or you are using a jam mode with input. If it is the latter, switch to Jam No Input. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

ah thx,
but with the "machine" feature, will the velocity levels vary ? And how do you specify that you want a little change, like a tom here and little variations in the fill inss? |

Once you got the groove in the bar editor via MIDI learn, I recommend you use 'Turn Groove Into Style' in the bar editor menu. This 'cements' your basic groove and you can then do various things for embellishments:
- load a drummer other than 'Machine' for feel, accents and fills
- extract elements from other styles to add to yours _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Ralph, those are the little jewels hidden in Jamstix that need to be in the "Tips and tricks" chapter of the manual...
Along with "Recreating classic songs"
