|
|
Hello, all. I just downloaded & installed the demo, and my understanding is that jamstix can create drumming patterns on the fly as it listens to audio.
With that expectation, here's what I did:
1) Opened one of my songs in Sonar Studio
2) Inserted a new softsynth, Jamstix Pro. The interface came up.
3) Loaded the standard drum kit. Clicked on several drums & cymbal and heard everything fine.
4) On my acoustic guitar track that was recorded previously, in the effects bin I inserted the AudioM8.
5) I played the song, and I saw the meter on the AudioM8 moving, and the red audio light was lit on the Jamstix control panel, but I heard no drum sounds. The "power" knob on the screen did move back & forth.
6) I tweaked the trim up & down which had no effect.
7) For good measure I switched on "Input Echo" on my audio track and it just built up a massive wall of audible echoes.
Am I expecting the software to do something it wasn't even designed to do? If not, then would some of you please steer me in the right direction?
I've been having a terrible week, so I hope you'll forgive me if I'm missing something that's painfully obvious. My thought processes are not what they should be today.
Thanks so much! |

Did you select a style and drummer? The audio jam does not generate beats from the audio material. It does that with the selected style and drummer and the audio data is used to adjust the interpretation of the style/drummer performance.
Sorry you're having a terrible week; next week will be better! _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I got the impression from the Audim8 GUi that it was only needed "in a host that cannot route audio input to a VST instrument".
But it looks to me that JS2 does not have an "Audio In" port, so I would think the using AudioM8 for jamming with audio is the only method.
Is this correct, or have I missed some setting? |

Correct, JS2 does not have an audio input as JS1 did. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Sadly, Sun_tzu didn't tell how he got it to work ...
I have the same or a similar problem.
I am running cubase4LE. I am running an Arturia Moog V as VST instrument with audioM8 as insert effect. It all seems to work fine, the meters work.
I also run the JS V2 Demo as VST. I set it to "Jam with Audio". As soon as I start the transport in cubase, the input knob turns like hell, so I figure this is ok. The input knob's movement reacts to "MIN DYN" and "INPUT LTRIM".
But JS does not really "react". No matter which drummer / style I choose, it plays somewhat randomly, without a recognizable "style". When I turn the audio input down, it somewhat subsides, but again, no recocnisable "style". When I change from 120 to 140 bpm, JS does not react at all. It all sounds as if the drummer were completely deaf and just randomly kicks the bass drum ...
Am I missing something?
Maybe I have a complete misconception of what the software is supposed to do? I wanted it to play drums along my guitar and a live sequencer, but obviously it does not work that way. So what is the "jamming with audio" mode supposed to do?
From the user manual: "However, when used in a jam mode, Jamstix becomes a virtual drummer that performs by itself in synch to your hosts song position, tempo and time signature. When the host plays, Jamstix plays. "
How should "performs by itself" be interpreted? I thought I could tell it a sytle, and then it would adjust tempo to my VSt host, play along in the chosen style and automatically play fills and little variations.
Do I have to program all this? Just like a common drum machine? If so, what is the difference to, say, "Groove Agent"?
Cheers,
Alex |

The audio jam component adjusts the song power and with it associated play rules, like snare crosssticking and hihat/ride transitions as well as groove reduction on low power. The groove itself is dictated by the style/drummer selection. Please go to Options and load the 'wide' preset for the input velocity map. This will smooth out the power level response to your audio input. Unlike Groove Agent, the groove is not pre-made but is created based on play rules and embellished with accents and fills. It is also altered by the drummer model concerning feel and power/timing variations.
Jamstix 3 will have a new component called 'Groove Builder' that will construct a groove based on your audio input using a beat analysis to take this further. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
