Thanks Ralph,
If I move / reinstall to JS2, will JS1 still function in my old projects? |

OK, definate progress here! I've cut and paste all of my JS1 samples into jamstix2/data/sounds, and all kits seem to be present and correct in JS2.
I opened JS1 in an old project and it told me that it couldn't find the folder with accents / samples etc, and asked me to select the new destination, but wouldn't let me select JS2 'data' or 'sounds'.
It did allow me to select the migrated Jamstix folder with the full set of sub-directories (but without any samples in the samples folder). When I started playback the activity lights were flashing, but no sound (with any of the mappings I tested).
I did a search for 'sounds' containing dp2, and copied (not cut this time!) back to jamstix/samples, selected a DP2 mapping, and sure enough, got sound.
So now I know I can get js1 fully operational alongside if I duplicate the samples in both structures, but would prefer not to have to. Is it possible to have them both looking at the same sample set? |

If you are comfortable using the registry editor you can do it as follows:
In the CURRENT_USER branch, make sure entry called 'DataPath' exists under \Software\rayzoon\jamstix and that it is set to the correct Jamstix 1 data path.
Now remove the JS1 sounds (only the JS1 sounds!) from the Jamstix 2 'sounds' folder and Jamstix 2 should find the JS1 sounds via the registry entry. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

So I've corrected the registry and tested the principle by moving the files containing 'DP2'. The 'Drumpak 2 - standard' kit now plays successfully from JS1 or 2
But, it seems I didn't learn my lesson and keep a back-up of JS1 samples and JS 2 sounds before I moved the former into the latter, so I've got some unravelling to do.
My next test was to move files containing BP (brushpak?), and while this seemed partly successful, there seemed to be things missing. Did the brushpak default kit use original JS samples as well?
I've been looking at the file names for obvious naming conventions, and some seem to emerge:
DP1 = Drumpak1
DP2 = Drumpak2
BP = Brushpack
Then it gets a bit harder...
BoP = BonzoPak ? (1403 files)
JS2 = Jamstix2 (presumably) but only 762 files which seems small besides Bonzo..?
MP = MetalPak? (484 files)
JP = ? (192 files, mostly but not all containing 'brush' in the name - are these the gaps I'm seeing in the Brushpak?)
CS - 984 files, which I'm taking to be 'close stereo', but which pak / library do they belong in? I don't rememeber this being available in the early releases of JS1 so are these JS2 aswell?
I'm not spotting anything that specifically identifies the original JS1 library or the snare pack (I think I have everything except the electronic kit (and now percussion - soon to be rectified...)).
If I move everything that is left after I (temporarily) take out all the groups above, does that give me the JS1 library and snarepak? (I could live with a certain amount of duplication in the 2 libraries if it makes seperation of the rest easier to achieve)
Thanks as ever for your patience and help... |

You got it all right. In addition, JP files also belong to BrushPak. SP files are SnarePak and CS files belong to various Paks as they are the close-stereo versions. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hey - I think I'm home and dry!
I moved the files as per the the structure above and after lots of random selections (aka 'testing') I found one misssing sound in one kit, which was an ePak sound which I know I don't have!
Thanks for your patience and prompt responses, and I promise I'll try not to break it again! |
