I bought JS2 a few months ago, but I'm only now starting to do more than experiment with some sounds and verify that it is functional.
I find it reasonably easy to add nice-sounding drum tracks where the drums come through as the featured instrument. If I then mix them quieter, they sound like aggressive drumming from far away. What I haven't clued in on yet is how to have drums with good presence, yet without taking over the arrangement.
I'm not a drummer, so I may not have the right words for what I'd like in the song I'm working on, but essentially humanized time-keeping with a fair amount of syncopation and variation. Somewhat subtle...soft jazz or a classy level of MOR?
Any hints? |

Use Phil, and if it's still too much, turn down the sliders under the accents tab.
If you want it really, really straight, use Charlie. |

Another thing you can experiment with is turning the song power knob above the song sheet down. This will yield softer drum sounds. At much lower levels, the drummer will also alter its play style. If you like that but the drums are then too soft, turn up the 'Min Velocity' slider to the desired power level. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
