Hey - was just playing for a bit, all is fine...stopped, loaded the Quickstart 12-bar-blues, then clicked on the drummer to change it & got:

Access violation at address 033A5A2A in module "jamstix2.dll". Read of address 00000038.

Apparently it's because I didn't have the kit it was looking for - strange, I thought I had the standard kits installed, but several of them seem to come up missing. This was a recent reinstall from scratch, including Windows XP.

The "OK" button only seemed to cycle the error, i.e. the window flashed grey but never went away, until I clicked the X in the corner.

Assigned a Bonzo Pak kit & it plays ok...hmm...

It happens to everyone who starts with 12-bar blues. After a while you also start getting little electric shocks through the mouse buttons as well, until you load something more adventurous. The only way to fix this is to compose a tune in either 5/4 or 7/8, with at least one bar in waltz time.

(Sorry -- couldn't resist!) Laughing

Would gladly be cut by Buddy, as long as he jammed with me first! Cool

But back to the problem: I haven't had Jamstix crash on me yet, but perhaps you could add some detail, i.e. what version of Windows, what Service Pack level, are you logged in as Administrator or using a normal user account -- and what type of CPU and how much RAM have you got, etc.

Well, I actually posted all that in another thread about a bigger problem. Wink

I mentioned this mainly for Ray's benefit - I think it was because there was no kit loaded at the time. I found another thread about having issues with not having the "stock" kit installed - I may have missed that on the reinstall - where the guy described something I was seeing, having all these sounds come up missing. 12-bar blues default to a stock kit, I believe.

OK, sorry I couldn't be of any help. As a consolation, I can strongly recommend the 2007 Crossroads DVD. Man oh man oh man!

Actually, just found your other post ... if you're not using any soft synths, as in, playing them in real-time, there's no reason to have a very low buffer setting. It just puts more strain on the CPU. Try hiking it right up ... e.g. 1024 or 2048. Reaper will compensate for any slight delay, and the only place you'll notice it is when mixing, in that the faders will appear a little "sloppy".

One other small point: I would choose 44.1kHz rather than 48kHz if you're planning to eventually burn to CD, because any slight quality advantage is going to be destroyed by the sample rate conversion that your CD burning software will inflict. A lower sample rate will place less load on your CPU.

24-bit is good choice for recording though. It gives you much more room to allow for loudness variations in the performance.

I will try adjusting the buffer a bit further, although I do use soft synths from time to time.

As for 44.1 over 48, not really worried. I don't mix to CD very often, and my CPU isn't really being over-taxed. I'd rather have the extra resolution.

Please send me the rzdlog.txt file from the Jamstix 2 folder for review.
