Just posted RC2 which implements pitch naming so hosts that support it can show 'Snare' in the MIDI or drum editor versus D1 etc.

This Build also has a new memory manager, which seems to have alleviated the crashes that some MTS users have experienced and it also sports a new audioM8 with some multi-threading fixes.

Let me know how it all works for you!

Still seeing on RC2 the problem I reported against a beta; I try to give a step by step as precise as I can to replicate it - this is slightly different than the sequence I mentioned previously:

1) Get the test project (SONAR 7.0.2, Wusikstation with 4GB collection used but not needed besides Jamstix2) at http://www.box.net/shared/d2wk5dqios

2) Load in SONAR - cancel any complain for missing Wusikstation - if needed, remap correctly the drum tracks ins and outs for MIDI and audio

3) Press "W" to rewind to start of song

4) Press space to play, listen carefully to the intro fill, press space to stop

5) Repeat steps 3) and 4) a few times and check that the intro fill is mostly the same

6) Click on the "Ch1" marker in time ruler, press space to play so that transport runs from there

7) Press space to stop, even after less than a measure

8 ) Click on measure 1 on time ruler to move now pointer to measure 1

9) Press space to play, listen to the intro fill again, press space to stop

The fill heard in step 9 is almost always different from the others produced in step 4, while in step 4, no matter how many tries, it's always the same.
The charleston pattern is audibly different, it's not a matter of subtle changes. It seems in latest RCs the situation got better in that I can only hear the wrong fill the first time I press play in step 9; from second execution of step 9, it seems the fill is back ok.

As an additional info, I have SONAR set with "set now with full restart" and "on stop, rewind to now marker" options enabled.

Not a real showstopper, but this makes somehow unreliable JSs behaviour...

Thanks,
Mario

More oddness noticed in RC2, still verified using the same SONAR project mentioned in previous post:

1) Double clicking in first MIDI track MIDI port symbol shows the JS2 GUI; this is *much* slower than in previous versions (not sure about RC1, but betas were surely quite faster)

2) This is very bad: drag the song label to the first MIDI track and switch JS2 to Drum module mode. I'd expect, especially now that CC4 is transferred to the MIDI track data, to get exactly the same performance. Instead, I can clearly hear differences in pressure and, most important, apparent random notes (toms, rides and so on)

3) After step 2, going back to the original JAM - No input mode the drum sounds have changed - need to reload the project to get back the original sound.

4) It seems pitch naming does not work in SONAR 7 piano roll, I hoped it would since SONAR 7 should be able to get note names from VST synths; am I missing something?

Unfortunately, I can't duplicate the 'fill' problem here at all.

The GUI does not open any slower for us here when compared to previous versions. Could you double-check this and send me the rzdlog.txt file afterwards?

The song export works fine for me as well. Did you remember to UNcheck the 'Map GM' button after switching to 'drum module mode'?

The pitch naming was tested with REAPER and MTS. Not sure whether and how other hosts are doing this particular function, to be honest.

PostPosted: Thu Mar 13, 2008 3:28 am    Post subject: 2 minor handling issues Reply with quote

I don´t find serious bugs and Jamstix now works great with the latest Ableton Live version (which is my main host). So, no real complaints, but I found 2 minor handling issues (not only in the latest beta, but also in older Jamstix2 versions). I will try to explain...
1. I don´t like the behaviour of the horizontal sliders (e.g. bias or power slider in the brain menu). After clicking it with the mouse arrow, dragging it to the desired value it jumps a little when the mouse button is released, so that its not so easy to get zero when I want zero... (the rotating knobs can be set with single clicks on the left or right side of them to decrease or increase in single steps, something similar would be nice for the horizontal sliders, if possible).
2. when set to the maximum of 13/8 the last 3 columns of the bar editor don´t allow the entering of hits. When I click on one of these cells the window on top of the bar editor does not open. Not that I want to make a tune in 13/8, but it struck me. Anyway, its still possible to move or copy hits from the other cells as a workaround.

Yes, I confirm this (under Ableton Live)

The slider problem is being worked on but won't be fixed in 2.2.
The 13/8 issue will be fixed in 2.2. Thanks for the catch!

It is in your download page under 'Jamstix 2 Beta'.

I have been experimenting with "Liveloops" which work great when changing the Repetitions of certain Parts to e.g. 999. As explained in the manual when switching to another part using MIDI ProgramChange, Jamstix will only switch to the new part AFTER playing ALL the Bars of the current Part.

Is there any way to "cheat" and let Jamstix switch to the new part after finishing the current Bar of the current Part ???
The reason this is handy is when playing live, sometimes the human makes a mistake and a bar gets "lost" Wink It would be really handy to switch sooner/later than planned in such cases ...

Reducing the number of Bars for a Part to 1 is not a good solution, because then the pattern becomes to repetitive ...

It's a major feature of Liveloops to always play through the part because it allows the player to trigger the next part at any time during the current part without having to time it right. We'll chew on your request, though.

I hope you will consider this, because when one does not want this major feature, it can suddenly become an obstacle Wink
