Before I buy, a question about arrangements.

I'd like some clarification on arrangements as I seem to be struggling getting the program to work the way I would like.

For me the free-jam mode is the most interesting & I was hoping to let JS do its magic on my compositions but with the actual arrangement set by me. Is this possible? For example, in the middle of my current song I need a crash & stop on the 2nd beat of bar 77 & then to roll back in at beat 3 of bar 81. Everytime I make changes to the arrangement with free-jam on, it reverts back to constant playing - even with "use arrangement" ticked.

Am I missing something or am I just not able to work this way?

Ideally I'd like to completely set the arrangement (including empty bars & beats, fills & endings) & then let JS just jam through using that as a template. I figure let it run through the complete arrangement 4 or 5 times & then I can pick out the best of what it does.

Advice please?

Many thanks,

PMF

Free jam is mainly about getting rhythms created from scratch. JS does not currently follow a preset arrangement but ties rhythms to chords detected at the beginning of each bar.

I recommend you let JS free jam and focus mainly on the rhythms it comes up with. Once you think you've got some material, switch to 'Manual Jam' and manually click the arrangement in the arranger so that the proper rhythms are played in the bars as you'd like. After that, right-click on bars to set or reset fills, intro and ending.

This is not as 'automatic' as you'd like but it's still faster than with other tools or fully by hand.

Jamstix 2 will have a 'song wizard' that will allow you to define a preset song structure to jam within.

It's been a long time out of making music & I come back & see JS2 is now out.... did this feature or something similar make it through? It'll be a certain purchase for me if it did *crosses fingers*.

Yes, part-based arranger and bar editor are implemented in Jamstix 2. Please check out the demo.

Cool, will do, thanks. Are there any vids or tutorials I can check out on using it this way?

Check the videos on our site and, if you have a specific question or need a workflow explained, just let me know.
