Hi-

Say I want to create a kit that maps to the assignments for one of my Motif drum kits. What's the recommended way to do this? Is "DrumPak #1 - Standard" the closest to GM? That would at least give me a jumping-off place.

BTW, it would be wonderful of someone someday created a SONAR Drum Map to JamStix2 Kit translator! Wink

Thanks-

-Susan

Hi-

Does anyone have any thoughts about this? I'm sure there's a "right" way to create a JS2 drum kit, as opposed to a "right" way to create a drum track with it! Smile

As it is, I'm floundering around and feeling like I'm wasting quite a bit of time, since I don't even know if I've found the right starting point yet. Which is closest to the "Standard GM MIDI Dum" kit, and is that the best way to begin, since JS2 obviously can't include a kit for everything out there. In my case, I'd like to create JS2-compatible maps for some Motif Drum Kits.

Thanks-

-Susan

Is no one else trying to create a kit from scratch/GM that doesn't match up with any JS2 assignment?

I'll see what I can come up with for my Motif kits, but maybe there's no demand (other than mine)? Based on the [lack of] responses, I guess I'm the only one...

Thanks-

-Susan

I'd suggest creating your own basic template and use that as a starting point. Most drum libraries either are GM or have a GM mapping patch, so that's probably the most logical place to start. A basic 5 piece kit maps from C3 to E4. A lot of libraries will double certain instrument variations an octave or two higher or lower (left and right hits for example) and have the mod wheel control the hi-hat openess, so if you're going to need that in your template you should figure out where they will be for the drum libraries you'll be using. Otherwise you'll be spending a lot of time moving the instrument mappings around.
