Ok. Firstly, great product, love the new interface. I have a quick question though.

I want to create an arrangement where the verses are played quietly and then the chorus's are played loud and powerful. How do I do this?

I am set up on JAM - NO INPUT and all I want to be able to do is tell it to play the chorus parts loud and the rest quiet. I tried playing the song through and adjusting the power knob, sounded great while I did it but it wasn't recorded.

I'm sure I am missing something obvious

i sent you pm instead of hitting the reply-button!

so again:

shouldn't it be possible to automate the sliders / knobs of jamstix in your host? i never tried it but vst-automation should work - no?

I tried that and it does work. I can't help thinking that if you could just set the velocity of each part it would be much faster though.

it would be faster, of course....maybe ralph comes in and enlighten us so we can choose from diffrent work-flows regarding volume/power-automation....we'll see!

happy jamming Wink

Well, it works in Sonar... I just made a automation-envelope which 'leads' the Powersetting at the top of the Song sheet (it was btw the only setting I could make an envelope for so far, but I believe you can edit those manually from within JS2). I can automatically change the power without any problems, going from soft (sidestick) to normal (snare) to power (ride) anytime I want to.

A related bit of info:

JS2 does not have a lot of VST-automation parameters visible to hosts.

One reason is that there are a lot of controllable things in JamStix, and the other reason is that the controllable things change depending on the style or drummer used, and the VST standard does not support a dynamically changing list of automation parameters. After all, the drummer could be changed (in JS2) from verse to chorus - and back again!

So, Ralph chose to implement MIDI controls for the parameters. Therefore instead of drawing an automation curve in your host, you would do it with MIDI controllers. This amounts to just about the same thing, though.

The easiest way is to use "Power" MIDI automation just as in JS1.

For everything else, Greg is right concerning the automation vs controller issue.

In most major hosts you can use MIDI controllers just as automation, meaning being able to draw a controller envelope etc.

I was going to post a feature request for being able to adjust the power per part but I found this thread after a search.

I know it can be resolved with automation but for jamming, sometimes you only really want to use JS2 and not even think about setting up automation. Then it gets messy when you start moving parts around.

It would be if JS2 could increase the power over a part so that you could have a gradual build up of power. Power gradient sort of thing.

I know it may not be a priority but maybe in a future update??? Very Happy Cool Wink

I agree. While I've been working with JS2 these last few days, I have been focussing on working within its own editing capabilities and think it is a pain to keep having to go back into the host to set a power curve.
