|
|
When writing, I usually play my drums using the Roland V-drums TD-12 using the BFD sounds and record the MIDI track in Nuendo. Whilst I can play drums reasonable my main instrument is guitar. Therefore, my drum tracks are not inspiring but for the purpose of writing, acceptable.
After reading about JS2 I was wondering if my already recorded midi track could be imported into JS2 and treated with the JS2 brain to make them more inspiring. Or just hear them with the different drummers?
I would still need to have the fundamentals of the the MIDI track (i.e. kick, snare, hat placements) remain but just to have them sound more like a pro and happening drummer.
That would be cool for me.

I would recommend you break-down your MIDI groove into separate patterns (verse, chorus etc.) and save them to separate MID files. You can then use the 'Import Style' to have each MID file be used as a groove for use by the drummer model. This will add feel, accents and fills based on the selected drummer model. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Which makes me wonder: JS has limb control: how does it deal with 'impossible' midi files? Supposed the TS loads a file with way too many hits at some spots and loads of fills: how does JS cope with that? |

During MIDI import, only one sound will be retained per 16th note slot and limb. During playback the real-time limb control system uses look-ahead and limb speed/distance calculations to also filter out sounds that cannot be reached. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Great. That's easy. Do they need to be quantized first,? or can JS2 deal with timing? I usually never quantize.
I guess I could also remove my standard fills and place the fills from JS2 right? If this works well it could save me a small fortune on session drummers.

Yes, it can handle it.

Yep!
(Since Ralph 'forgot' to react to this remark, I though I would plunge in here... ) |

| So, it sounds like JS2 can be used to sort of go through old projects and "clean up" and "improve" them. That's cool, too. |

Jamstix 2 allows you to quantize the import data or not, which yields the following results:
Quantized Import
- timing is exact after import
- drummer model can apply its own feel to the timing afterwards
Unquantized Import
- timing is whatever the data had (special feel or sloppy etc.)
- drummer model won't change the feel/timing afterwards _________________ Ralph Zeuner
