Hey guys
This EZ Drummer really is worth checking out.. EZ for sure... really simple and great sounds.... and some powerful features too.
Sure it won't 'create patterns or beats or arrange them like Jamstix... but that is Jamstix's forte.
One really cool feature of EZ D is that you can put all your midi files in the EZ D folder and you get access to every midi file you have... just go through the EZ (easy) directory and 'audition' with one click... then just drag and drop them individually into your DAW... I've never seen THAT before... importing collections of midi files into JS is fiddly... inporting into CUBASE is a NIGHTMARE!!
EZ drummer is worth it for that alone... but hey it sounds REALLY good too.
As far as I can tell the only difference between Superior C&V and Vintage and what EZ D will be offering is for one...16 bit samples... and obviously not the huge selection of kit pieces in each bundle. I think they have (and will be) 'purging' the recorded samples from the same source (recording sessions) as the superior sets.
I have a question though....
If you have DFH Superior... does it come with a large midi library? and can you drag and drop midi files from the interface into cubase?

No, DFHS doesn´t come with any midi library. Also you can´t drag any midi file into DFHS or from DFHS.
DFHS only dedication is to play programmed midi notes with its awesome drum sound engine. |

EzDrummer's selection of midi files aren't bad at all especially in a 1.0 release of their first midi product but using Jamstix to drive any of these drum samplers is easily the quickest way to get listenable drum parts together.
The smarts in Jamstix take us a step beyond chaining pre-programmed grooves together and editing them for more variation.
I think we will see this artificial intelligence based approach come to the fore from other companies too now that so much processing power is available but Rayzoon have clearly stolen a march here with Jamstix.

Thanks, Phil. We have some MAJOR AI advancements in the works for Jamstix 2 which have me very excited... _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Now that sounds promising !
Most of us including me are still discovering all the hidden goodies in JS 1.x ...
BTW, thanks for the manual jam fill frequency slider !

paspallum,
don't get me wrong, EzDrummer is a good product, but it's very limited in what it can do.
If easy is the most important reason for buying, you can't go wrong, beats JS easily.
If quality and flexibility is what you're after, it's JS with the Paks first, then, if you want more sounds, my choice would be C&V, then the expansion for it and then DFHS.
Afaik EzDrummer doesn't allow mixing and matching of kit pieces between different sound sets, a big disadvantage.
JS does this perfectly, and the Superior line also acts as one big pool of instruments.
There have been vague hints at the TT forum about either including a MIDI library with Superior 2.0 or making it available separately, but somehow I'm not that excited about drum MIDIs anymore since I have JS.
YMMV, of course.
Cheers, Rhino
PS: If you wonder why I bought EzDrummer then, better ask my psychiatrist.
He mumbled something about GAS, it's not supposed to be lethal, but rather hard to cure nevertheless.
And, to my defense, somebody made me an offer I could not refuse, the combination of several discounts plus free shipping. So I basically was forced to buy ... |

Thanks guys for 'chipping in' and sharing your knowledge.
I started out 4 years ago with NI Battery.... it wasn't very exciting and their drum samples sounded very clinical.
I now have BFD, Jamstix (with ALL of the additional snarepaks) and now EZ drummer.
ONCE again...just like with any softwares... if I could blend all three I'd have my perfect piece of gear... and you know what? With a bit of tinkering... I CAN blend all three....and use each one of these drum applications for the job at hand.. or even blend parts of them or have them working together... it makes for more varied results!
I will keep an eye on Superior C&V and Vintage.... but damm! I've already spent a heap on drum samples... I might try and see if I can get some good grooves happening before worrying about the end sound... that can always be added at the final mixing stages.
